Who happens to happen on the flea markets is well aware that you never know what will fall there!

However, this hunt for rare antiques and vintage and fascinating!

Yesterday I was at the flea market, there were few finds, but one unique and unique thing inspired me to write this publication.

This is a catalog of clothes and accessories for the winter of 1899-1900 of the two well-known Samaritin stores in the center of Paris. Authentic antique rarity such a catalog, with many beautiful pictures, even photos are not needed, with prices in francs and a description of fabrics and materials.

What is there just not! Of course, these are mainly clothes for women: dresses, corsets, gloves, coats, furs, as well as shoes and a few different things for the house, there are clothes for children and men in this catalog, which is also very interesting to see.

Dress styles for girls can be useful for craftsmen who create clothes for antique dolls such as Jumo.

In this catalog, fabric samples are even glued so that you can choose a dress or a suit to order from the fabric you like.

After all, the 1900s are called the “golden era” (belle epoque in French). This is the heyday of the nouveau riche - the "new rich". The center of the fashion world is Paris - haute couture flourishes here, luxury dresses are sewn for weeks and only by hand, richly decorated with feathers, lace and embroidery and displayed at exhibitions, and then sent to the closets of their wealthy owners.

The main accessory of the 1900s - hats: wide-brimmed, heavy and generously decorated with ostrich feathers, beads, fabric flowers and ribbons, it has become a practically fashionable symbol of this era.

In this era, women's clothing is still experiencing the influence of the fashion of the XIX century, obeying a clear dress code, which has not been changed in high society.

In the 1900s, women's attire meant at least three parts: it was a thin cotton undershirt, sometimes with lace ruffles, and a narrow corset over the strings above it (despite the fact that the first publications in the press about the dangers of corsets were already beginning to appear, women of fashion are still ready to suffer for the sake of a thin waist), and then a long dress.

It was not an easy task to put all this on, the maidservants helped the girls, and sometimes they took several hours to get ready for publication. Dresses were created with the silhouette of an hourglass with a constant thin waist, accentuated by a soft belt or a ribbon with a bow.

The coats had a synonymous fitted silhouette, but most often with a voluminous top in the form of sleeveless puff or a fur collar. The outfit clothes were sewn of expensive silk and chiffon, warm winter clothes made of wool, velvet and natural fur, casual and sports dresses made of flax and light cotton.

For the decoration of day and evening gowns, designers used lace, ruffles, braid and embroidery in abundance.

The most popular shoe model at this time was low-heeled shoes in the form of a glass, which was called louis, and with a decorative buckle, bow or buttons in front.

And where in the "light" without gloves and umbrellas, they are for all tastes and requests!

Fashion for men is presented less extensively: suits, coats, shoes for very young and older for everyday wear, as well as the exit.

So I got an excursion into the distant fashionable past, it happens that the finds give rise to the desire to tell about them in more detail, and maybe it will be useful for the masters to create their new collections of clothes or outfits for antique dolls.
